This worked lesson introduces fractions of whole amounts using equal groups. Sit alongside your child and ask what each number in the fraction tells them.
Start with counting small sets and sharing fairly. This lesson uses whole-number answers. It does not cover every part of the Year 3 or Year 4 curriculum.

Put 12 small objects on the table. Make 3 equal groups. Choose 2 groups. Ask your child to draw what they did and write a calculation.
